Career

Louis Glickfield is the Founder and Chairman of Marlo Furniture, the Washington, D.C. area’s largest furniture retailer and one of America’s top 70 furniture retailers.Although he still serves as Chairman Emeritus, Louis Glickfield sold his interest in Marlo Furniture in 2006 to Neil Glickfield and is no longer involved in the daily operations.

  • Served as the President of the Home Furnishings Representative Association(representing Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia) in 1965.
  • Recipient of the first ever Innovator Award as well as the Most Productive Retailer of the Decade and Retailer Of The Decade awards from the Home Furnishings Representative Association in 1976.
  • Induction into the Furniture Hall of Fame by the Home Furnishings Representative Association (representing Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia) in 1988. The Eagle Trophy awarded to him is inscribed. “For setting your sights and soaring only where eagles dare – higher and higher in pursuit of excellence. For having soared far above all standards by which anyone can be measured.”
  • The Eagle Trophy – Retailing Hall of Fame
    Louis Glickfield, Founder and Chairman of Marlo Furniture, the Washington, D.C. area’s largest furniture retailer, was awarded The Eagle Trophy and inducted into the Retailing Hall of Fame by the Home Furnishings Representatives Association in 1988. Louis Glickfield has achieved remarkable honors and recognition including the Governor’s Salute To Excellence for his athletic prowess, business success, philanthropy, humanitarian efforts and personal accomplishments.
  • Retailer of the Decade

  • Largest Area Furniture Store Opens (December 1973)
    Marlo Furniture Co., a 19 year old Washington retailer, this week opened the area’s largest furniture emporium – a $5 million, 175,000 square foot unit at Pennsylvania Avenue and Forestville Road in Prince George’s County.
